I moved recently moved and when I disconnected the washing machine, I found a small puddle (about the size of a silver dollar pancake) under the machine. I have recently had to pull the machine out of the laundry room and another puddle has formed. The machine seems to be working fine except last night I heard some intermittent squeaking. Where could this be coming from and is it a difficult fix?

Hello: Clarksville

Chances are the marks are an indication the gearbox is leaking fluid. May be a seal or a loosened plug or bolt. Knowing exactly from where can be determined by placing a clean sheet of carboard beneath the machine.

A visual inspection may help to locate the place where the fluid is coming from. Which may require a back plate or cover be removed.

If you are handy fixing machanical machinery, job may not be too difficult. Also depends on the brand and model.

Read the manufacturers online web site for problem possibilities, solving methods, disassembly, reassembly methods, repair procedures, pictorials, downloadable repair manuals, etc which may be available online.

Search the manufacturers web site for a downloadable version of the owners or service manual. The file will be a pdf file opened with Adobe, which also needs to be downloaded first but worth having once obtained.

Retail appliance parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problem may be. Bring the make, model and serial numbers. Appliance part stores and dealers are listed in the phone book.
