We repainted our walls that were last painted about 15 years ago. All the walls painted just fine except for one area on the ceiling. When we started to roll the paint there, the old paint suddenly came loose in big sheets and globbed all over the roller. What should we do at this point? Thank you.

Oh, I HATE it when that happens. Stop painting, let it dry. Use a garden tank type sprayer, and spray the ceiling in 6' square areas. Let it soak a bit, then scrape off whatever you can. After it dries, try scraping around all the edges of the peeling areas. If and when you are satisfied you have removed all the paint that will peel, sand that area and prime with either an alkyd primer, or a DRC. DRC's consist of your choice of Zinsser's Gardz, Scotch Paints Drawtite, or Ben. Moore's Masonry Sealer. Then smooth out the area with joint compound, and reprime floated area with same primer as before. Now you can paint without it falling on your head.
