Hi Ed,
I have recently received a quote from a reputable insulation contractor that has given me a quote that includes only unfaced insulation in the upstairs, exterior walls of a cape in the Northeast. (no poly mentioned in the bid pricing). Is it safe to omit a vapor barrier in my upstairs bedroom walls? I was under the impression from everything you have replied so far the we need kraft paper or poly in the exterior walls to act as a vapor barrier.

The unfaced insulation is just as good as the paper back. But no way let him put it up without a poly V /B over it on the room side .
Make sure its down on the paper work for the job.
