Hey again,

sorry for asking all these questions, but I'm a novice of novices in gardening. Here is my question. In my mulched areas surrounding where I'm trying to start a new lawn, should I use underlayment material? I would think it's good for weeds, but a real pain if you want to plant things. Also, what if you want to plant bulbs??

thanks again for your advice! My fiance' wants me to try to get the yard looking good before her family starts coming to visit!!! Yikes, what a task!

I think that you mean landscape fabric to stop weeds. Slit the fabric to plant through it. For bulbs, you will need to cut a small hole or slit a triangle and fold it back.

I don't use it, because it does not stop weeds from sprouting in the mulch itself. I have 15,000 sf of beds. Too much to buy landscape fabric. I just put the mulch on deep, pull weeds, or apply roundup.
