Hi Guys and Gals:

Need your help. I have recently remodeled my kitchen; walls, cabinets countertop, sink etc. I am in the process of replacing flourcent lighting with six inch recessed spot lighting. The ceiling by the way is tongue and groove knotty pine which has been up for about 20 years. Aged knotty pine (kind of yellow) I believe originally when installed the finish was satin poly. Upon removing the old flourcent lights, I found that under the flourcent fixtures the knotty pine was not finished at all but only the bare wood. Now that I am installing the recessed lighting I need to finish the knotty pine to match the old pine as close as possible so that it looks as clos to aged pine as possible.

My question is!! Is there anyone out there that has had to do this task. What combination of miniwax stains could I use to imitated the aged pine before I poly with satin finsih these area. Or how do I prepare and blend the old pine with the new pine in unfinfished areas. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Take a sample to a Paint store. A REAL paint store, Dunn-Edward, Diamond Vogel, NOT, Home Depot or Lowes, and have there guys match it up for you. If anyone can get the color you need close it will be in a professional paint store.

boardslinger has it right - get some help with this. Matching old stain/finish is more art than science.
