I'm finishing an aspen dresser top with Minwax oil-based high gloss polyurethane. Usually I use water-based, but that's another story.

I applied it with a bristle brush, and the finish is pretty good, although I've been fighting bubbles (no big surprise here). I'm mostly happy with the last application (using a foam brush), but there are just enough tiny bubbles that it's not smooth to the touch, which is driving me a little nuts. How can I polish out the bubbles without losing the gloss?

If the finish is thick enough and hard enough, you could rub it out. You may have to take off a lot to get past the bubbles. I normally finish everything in gloss and rub it out the way I need to have it look.

Here is howto on rubbing out a finish.

Hope this helps.

There's a Rockler store a few minutes from my house - they've got the pumice, rotten stone, and felt pads, but I didn't want to make the investment without knowing what to do with it.

The paste wax they have is a bit pricey. Will using it conflict with my wife's periodic usage of standard furniture polish when she cleans?
