Hi,

I have a couple of pieces of laminate furniture that I wanted to paint, but then wondered if I can actually stain it a darker color after sanding, in this instance, an oak to a dark reddish mahogany?

These are really pretty pieces of an entertainment center, that is so realistic I actually thought they were oak. Actually I believe that parts of it, the doors and trim are really wood.

Thanks

I would be wary of staining laminate, it just doesn't take very well. Also, the real wood and laminate will absorb the stains at different rates, making the two surfaces appear a different color. You will have a real hard time achieving the same look on the two different surfaces.

Thanks,
I had a feeling that would be the case.

If I want to change it I guess I'll paint it.
