Hello everyone! I picked up a Pioneer SD-P5075 rear projection television for a great price (free) recently, due to the simple fact that the owner did not want to fix it! Here is the problem. I can turn it on - it gets power - but it takes 10 minutes for the picture and sound to come on. It comes up for a couple of seconds (very blurry picture and a line through it that looks similar to if you had a vhs tape playing and needed to adjust tracking) and then the picture and sound goes away, comes back up, goes away.... it has done this up to 3 times before picture/sound stay on. When hooking up video or other outside source of signal (video game, dvd player, et....) sound and picture are immediate. Any help would be greatly appreciated! This is my first experience with a rear projection big screen, and I have the manual but it does not detail the interior of the television at all. Thanks again in advance!

Best on the described symtoms my suspicion would on the tuner module. Possibly some component(s) inside may be loose or slowly dying.
The easiest thing would be to replace the whole tuner module but unless you have experience doing this kind of work you may need to get a repair person to do it.
Of course it could also be a connection between the tuner module and the rest of the system so some troubleshooting will be required to establish exactly what the cause is.

Thanks for your reply. I have no experience in that type of work and with no blueprints to the "guts", I will probably have to call in a repair specialist. Any tips on what to look for in a good rear projection repair person? How much should I look to be spending on a repair if it happens to be the tuner module? The T.V. was free and I don't want to spend a fortune if I can go get a new one for a few hundred more! Thanks again!

My suggestion would be to try and ask relatives/friends and see if they can recommend a good repair person. Also try to get multiple quotes and see if they all converge around the same thing.
In my opinion an experienced repair person should be able to trace and fix a strightforward fault within an hour's labor + parts.
Cost of the tuner module is would be difficult to esablish since in many cases the manufacturer of the module may not be the same as the manufacturer of the TV. The cost to an individual may be more then that to the manufacturer.
Someone else on this forum may be able to throw more light on the repair costs

If I understand you correctly, when connected to a video source it works OK. If so, why not just buy a cheapo VCR with a video output and use it for channel selection?
