Walls and Ceilings - Building a stool wall (partition)

i am currently trying to build a stool wall partion out of plasterboard and wood

although i am unsure on how big the spacing shouold be between each length of vertical timber (in the stool wall)
and what size timber should i use, i have been told to use 2"x4" but this seems quite heavy considering the wall i requre is 9 feet in length

there will also be a door required in the wall but no window and it is not going to be supporting anything above it

Here in the U.S. most all partitians are made out of 2x4's and spaced 16" center to center. The actually measurement of a 2x4 is 1 1/2" x 3 1/2".

so you have 3 joists per board, what sized joists areused though 2 inches x 2inches

As Coops said here in the USA, framing standards would require a stud every 16" o/c. So for a 9' long wall you would use a total of 9 studs, (2"x4"s) We normally build the walls laying down & then simply stand it up into place, check for plumb & square & then anchor into place.

i understand that much but the 9 wood studs what dimentions are they are they pieces of 2inches by 4 inches or 2inches by 2 inches??

I would use what are referred to here in the US as 2"x4"s, actual dimensions of the individual pieces are 1 1/2" x 3 1/2" as coops posted earlier. You would subtract 3" from your 6.6' and cut your studs all at that length.

So a 9.33 ft x 6.6 ft equals a wall, 112" long by 79-1/4" tall. If this is correct your wall studs should all be cut at 76-1/4"
