I have two questions. I'll make it one post unless I fail to get responses on one or the other.

1. What is the procedure for repairing corners where the outer coating has been damaged and the metal corner piece has been exposed?

Outside corners are really prone to this kind of damage since they are right "out there" just waiting to get hit with something.

2. My current residence has square (90 degree) corners but I really like rounded corners. Is is possible to redo a corner to make it rounded. Too bad I can't just hit it with a big roundover bit in my router. That would make it easy. No such luck though.

1-- Re nail the damaged area. Put some mesh tape over the damaged area. finish with drywall mud.

2- Rip off existing bead. Cut drywall back 1/4" on each side. Hang your round bead. Finish with drywall mud.

That's the correct answer for both questions. So now all you have to do is pick which one you want to do. I would stick with fillin gthe existing bead.

I for one am a big fan of bullnosed corners, I think it adds alot of style to a home. I also absolutely hate mesh tape & rarely use it other than for small hole repairs.

If you decide to redo the corners with bullnose, I would recommend using the vinyl bullnose bead, you can get it at a good lumber yard, (most Do-It-Best affiliated lumber yards carry it in stock)
