I bought some wood moulding from Home Depot to put around my bedroom doors. I bought a Maple oil based stain and applied it to the wood. It is barely making a difference in the color. I've tried lightly sanding the wood and it's almost a golden color. The maple stain is alot darker. I stippped off one of the mouldings that was already on the door and stained that one and it turned out fine. How do I get the color to take on this wood?

Try sanding it down a little. Use a 100 or even 120 grit, it won't t ake much. If this does not work, try putting a little water on the wood, and let sit for a minute, then sand again. The water helps to open the grain up. (oak). Good Luck
