This is the only time that i would reccomend that you go over wood with tile is when there is wood plank to deal with.I assume you are talking about wood plank right?
You can successfully tile over plywood following the proper guidelines.
1)Use 3/8 or thicker cdx plywood.
2)Leave 1/8 inch gaps at the perimeter of the room and also where the sheets meet.
3)Use a latex modified thinset.
4)Use construction adheasive when fastening to the flloor (under the plywood)
5)Use 1 3/4 screws (just to get you through the subfloor and not the joists.
Please post back if you have any more questions:cool:

Hello: John
The professional moderators in this forum can best help with the flooring. Since the original question was titled tiles I edited it to reflect the true nature of the question pertaining to the flooring.
There is presently no moderator in the kitchens topic. I would not want your question to remian there most likely without being answered by a professional, if at all.
So in an effort to better help you, I moved the question here.
And already a pro posted professional advice...:)
