I live in Southern CA and I have a question about Armstrong vs. Pergo and the "padding" on the underside.

We are putting in the laminate downstairs in the kitchen/dining room and entry way.

Do we need the "padding" that is attached to the floor planks, like the pergo?

What is the padding really for (I have heard many different things from many different people).

Thanks!

The "padding" is an acoustical sound barrier. To test the effect, dangle or dance a chain of keys on the surface of a plank with and without the rubberized backing.
