I will be painting some kitchen cabinets with Varathane Colors in Plastic, Plastic Enamel. I've used this on steel doors in the past with great results.
My question is- my cabinets are solid wood (pine) with a lacquer or poly finish. What is necessary to prepare for the new finish, if anything? I will wash them down with TSP, of course, but do I need to give them a once-over with steel wool, before applying the plastic enamel? There is no info. on the can or the pamphlet covering this.
Thanks for any help.

I would. Sure can't hurt.

I would skip the steel wool and use 150 grit sandpaper and/or a "Fine" grade sanding sponge. You don't need to remove a lot of paint, just scuff it up a little so the paint adheres.
