I have a long strip of copper flashing that is between 2 floors (sunrooms 1st fl and 2nd) It kind of raps around a 8X18 room on one side of the house. I think it was installed when they enclosed the porches years ago. Anyway, at some point someone stated to paint if and from speaking to the previous owner, it always seems to start to chip away paint every 2 years.

How do I clean this up. I want to paint it over again but I am not sure how to prep it and what type of primer and paint to use.

Scrape it, sand it, and clean it real good. Then apply 2 coats of penetrating exterior alkyd primer. Then finish it with latex.

Its your house and you do what you want, but why paint it? Copper will take on a very nice (and usually desirable) patina.

That said, you can't use latex. Follow prowall's advice. I'm not sure alkalyd will even last on copper.
