My Sony VCR doesn't respond to the original remote controller even any of the universal remote controllers. This unit used to respond to any controllers without any problem. I haven't used this VCR for awhile. Now only I noticed that remote function is disabled.

What could be a problem? I need your advice. Thanks.

simple stuff-

change the batteries in the original remote
is there a hard switch on the remote that changes functions from tv to vcr?
is there anything in the way of the ir receiver on the vcr?
is the receiver dirty?
is there a bright light near or shining on the vcr that might interfere with the ir?

There were a few Sony VCRs that had a switch for Remote 1 or 2. Check for it.

Thanks Guys. Yes, there were three VTR1, VTR2 & VTR3 command modes on back of the flip lid in the front. It was on OFF mode. Once I changed that to VTR3 the remote started working.
