I am looking into purchasing a gun safe for my home. I have a ranch house, and from discussions with safe movers, it is going to be next to impossible to move the safe into the basement given the limited amount of door space. I am wondering if there is a way to determine if my floor will hold the safe, or if I should reinforce the floor, prior to the arrival of the safe. The safes that I am looking at ranges from 750 to 1,000 pounds, so I am worried that the floor may not hold. Any advice that anyone has would be greatly appreciated with regards to reinforcing the floor, or to how to determine if I need to reinforce the floor (short of brining in the safe and having it fall through the floor).

I hope this can help, as I see this is an older post.

A friend just had a safe installed in a ranch with a basement on the main floor (hardwood floors). The safe company told him it would be fine without reinforcements as long as it was on an outside wall (near the foundation wall), and should not be placed on an interior wall without reinforcing the floor.
