In installing laminate or hardwood flooring is it at all possible to make curves in the installtion? I would like to butt it up against some carpeting and don't want to make a square end.

It's possible, but it takes some very careful measurement and cutting. Laminate will be more difficult since it chips easily when cut.
See if you can find some kind of edging product to make the transition.

Perfect place to use a pro installer. It takes tools, skills and resources to provide a class completion to an out of the ordinary situation.
Actually a jig saw or a bandsaw can be employed to successfully cut a radius on planks of boards. Curved moldings for either can be produced on a molder (a machine) by a local molding shop, woodworker or cabinet maker that has this or similar equipment. You may have to design and provide drawings for a craftsman and you will be responsible for that, the craftsman would be responsible to produce the trim pieces to specification. A flooring pro has the ability and the connections to successfully complete the project.
