I want to replace tile floor in bathroom. One small area of the wood underlay floor is warped.
Would it be ok to sand the warped area level and then place the tile or do I need to lay the green backer board down on top of the wood.
My hope is not to remove the toilet. And I am hoping that I can find tile that is the approximate thickness of what is currently on the floor. I plan to use small tiles with the mesh backing, which I think would be easier to shape around the toilet.
Thanks for all responses.

It would be better to cut out the warped area and put down new underlayment. Is it particleboard? If it got wet it definitely needs to be replaced.
If your floor is on particleboard or OSB underlayment, you'll get a better tile job if you remove the underlayment and put down cement backerboard.
