We are about to tear up the carpet in our great room. It is joined by through a large entry way to laminate flooring in the dining area, and parquet flooring in the bedrooms. We would like to replace the carpet with the more cost effective parquet, but I am not sure it won't be an eyesore. Can you mix different types of flooring or is that a decorating no-no?

yup. he makes a good point.
here's the typical scenario, if you piece meal a house, it can look nice, most of the expensive homes I go to have it, but it is more difficult to make the right choices to make it look good, but it is possible.
Parquet in alot af areas will take you back to the 60's, but if that's where you want to go....
