I happened across a really good price on some Harris Tarkett 9/16" 5-ply engineered white oak 7" wide planks. The planks themselves are a bit on the short side, about 2', hence the great price of $0.99 / sf. :D

I'll be gluing this down to a concrete slab in Florida. The manufacturer, of coarse, recommends their own adhesives. Either a PF-50/65, PF-40, or PF-50. This stuff tends to run about $250 for a 5 gal bucket. Which, given the spread rate, amounts to over $1 per sf just for the adhesive! More than I paid for the floor!

Does anyone know how this stuff compares to the Roberts 1404 that I can pick up at HomeDepot for $50 per 4 gal bucket?

I really don't care if I void any manufacturer waurantees. I just don't want this stuff coming up later.

Thanks.
Steve

I've had several professional installers recommend Bostic's best. Here is another web site (http://www.woodsthebest.com/Flooring/Flooring_IntallEng2.htm) saying the same.

Beware that not using the glue recommended by the manufacturer could jeapordize any warranty they offer. Personally, I would not want to skimp on the glue.

I'm not familiar with that particular flooring but I would be concerned with the amount of expected expansion & contraction of it. If specs. say that it will ex. & cont. the usual 3/8" you will probable be ok using another mfgs. adhesive. But, if it exs. & conts. more than 3/8" then be careful. Armstrong has an adhesive which costs about this same amount ($200.00) and it is used just for their product that expands a lot. If you were to use any other adhesive with this product you would have a real mess.
Also, even if using another mfgs. adhesive does not void the warranty, if you have problems, you'll have the wood mfg. saying it's the adhesives fault and the adhesive guy saying its cheap wood!
