I an installing a fiberglass shower pan onto a concrete slab. The manufacturer call for a 5 " drain opening (4-1/2 minimum)in the floor. My drain has a 10" x 11" opening which the drain itself is not centered. I have built a frame for the base to support under the flanges and am planning to set the ahower pan in joint compound for support. My first concern is support for the base around the drain.
1. Should I fill in the hole in the concrete so that my drain is centered in a 5 " opening?
2. If so any suggestions on the best way to do this?
Thanks for your help!

ctrantham,
I would suggest filling it in with some pre-mix concrete - use a coffee can. Slip this over your current drain. I assume that youer drain will be move to the right spot. When this is done, this idea will work fine.
Once you have this done, you're joint compound will work fine for properly supporting the new pan.
Good Luck!
