Hello,
I'm about to begin my first "real" home improvement project. I've decided to redo my master bathroom. What I've done so far is to remove the showerstall (it was a neo-angle acrylic surround), removed the toilet and removed the wallpaper.
My first question is this: When removing the old shower stall, it ripped the paper off the drywall because of the glue that was used. At first I was wondering if I'd have to replace the drywall, but after reading this forumn, I realized that drywall should not have been used at all, but greenboard should have been used correct? So with this knowledge, I think I'll have to replace the drywall around the shower area with greenboard. I don't think it should be hard, but I've never done that. So do I just cut out the old drywall...trying to find the seams, and replace each individual whole piece or can I cut out the area I want and "patch" in greenboard?
I also want to replace the old vinal floor with ceramic tile. Is this a fairly easy job? I'm pretty handy, but have never seen or attempted this type of work before.
Any advice in all this is appreciated!
Thanks,
Skarn

Concerning your wall issues: Are you going back over with a new surround? Or are you going to tile. If you go back with a new surround you don't need to do anything. If you go back with tile then you should remove drywall and replace with cement board(hardibacker, durock, wonderboard etc...)

I'm going back in with another neo-angle stall that has acrylic surrounds. So you don't think I need to replace the drywall with greenboard? There is some minor water damage on two walls where the old stall was.

I've done my bathrooms with ceramic tile and it's fairly easy. It'll be hard to give you step by step here, so I'd suggest you attend a how-to workshop that Home Depot sponsers every weekend(in my neck of the woods), or check with your local home improvement center for more info. There are also self help books that may be of help. Good luck!
