I need to use a jigsaw to cut a decorative pattern along the edge of an approx. 6" x 25" piece of wood, which I intend to paint and use as a decorative window "valance". I'm stumped how to come up with a uniform pattern & how to stencil a cutting guide onto the wood before I start cutting. Any suggestions?

You could take a peice of paper the total length of you valance and fold it in half and draw a design on it and then cut it out. Then trace that on to your wood and cut it out. Another option would be to buy some decrative mold that has an edge already cut out and just nail it onto your valance. I made one out of popular and added some molding and then stained it and sealed it with poly. I have gotten many comments on how nice it looks. Hope this helps and good luck with your project....
