Greetings, I have a Sears gas cooktop, installed 2 years ago. Latley, it takes about 30 seconds to light , this is same for all burners, igniters seem to spark good , once lit burn is good.Almost as if there is no gas in line , I have checked for leaks , none.
Thanks for any help.

Hello hali63. Welcome to my Gas Appliances topic and our Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

Most common cause for burners failing to light is plugged or restricted burner ignition ports.

Ignition ports are tiny holes up one side of the burner head. If these holes are restricted, they must be cleared out. Cleaning can be accomplished using sewing straight pin needle. DO NOT enlarge the ignition holes. Doing so will have adverse burner lighting effects.

Remove the efected burners and look closely at the side of the burner head. The side that faces the sparker will have those igntion port holes. Cleaning them out will resolve the problem.

The above applies only to burners that do not light directly from the sparkers. Which means the sparker is not visable right next to the burner head. These types are direct burner ignition.

The type explained above is those which the sparker is in between the burners. One sparker lights either of two burners. The burners have a thin round metal tube facing the burner and the other end facing the spark ignitor.

Thanks Sharp, I checked the ignition holes ,they are clear, do you have any other suggestions, I would seem there is no gas flowing for this period, could there be a regulator problem or is there a safety or something built in ?Once they are lit it is good until the next day then there is a wait.
Thanks , hali63

Hi: hali63

Could be a regulator problem for that specific appliance but not as likely as thought. Possible but rarely do stove top regulators cause the condition you describe. Especially if all other gas appliance do not have the same or like problem.

Does the condition effect any other gas appliances???
Are there other gas appliances? If so, what are they?
Gas dryer? Gas oven? Gas heating? Gas hot water?
What type of gas? Natural or propane?

If you are sure the ignition holes are not clogged from prior spill overs, you should be able to hear gas even if the burner does not light. Burner should still light from a match.

I would like as much more detailed info as you can provide. Answers to the questions and the results to the paragraph above will help provide me with the clues needed to hone in on the most likely causes.
