Hi, I'm having recessed lights installed in a small room (6x8). The entire room uses 5/8 fire-rated drywall. Approx. (3) 4-inch IC-rated cans will be used. My goal is to keep this room as quite as possible by using fiberglass insulation and homasote as sound control materials. Right now, I have 2 layers of 1/2 homasote between the ceiling joists in the room. I know that using homasote in between the joists instead of covering them reduces the effectiveness of the material but ceiling height was an issue. Insulation was installed so that when the recessed cans were in place, the insulation would be about 3-5 inches away from each fixutre. The top of the recessed cans are about an inch away from the homasote. I do know that homasote is a class C rated product but I wanted any advise, opinions or thoughts on this installation in regards to safety. My biggest concern is the proximity of the homasote to the recessed can (1" from the top of the can). The lights should shut off if the temp is too hot. I'm planning on using 30 watt bulbs. Any thoughts? Thanks
