We purchased a now 4-year old steel/foam constructed house. We want to install awnings. The local awning companies will not guarentee the installation due to the lack of plywood/OSB siding. That is, they don't think driving screws through the steel 2x4s will hold the awnings under the stress of high winds.

The local guys are not familiar with steel/foam construction, and I am now beginning to see and hear about the negative side. Are there any type of connectors that would secure awning brackets to steel 2x4s--again, the concern is the "torque" effect of high winds.

Im with them ,I think that the screws any kind would pull right out in wind. Cause the steel stud is so thin. I dont see why they cant be put up with a mollybolt or a toggle bolt. I have use them a lot for a set up like this.Both of them will expand behind the steel stud when you put them in a tighten them up. Look at them in a store and you will see what I mean.;) ED

Did they outright refuse, or offer an option you are not comfortable with?

I suspect they offered to thru-bolt, perhaps it wasn't going to look so nice.
