My husband gave me 8" tulips in potting soil for valentines day. Im not sure when or how to plant these and not sure if they really even have to be planted outside. Also I have holly hawk bulbs and Im wondering about how to plant them and when??? I live in west Texas.

If they have bloomed in the pot, then they will need to be recharged for the next blooming season. Just enjoy them and give them a bit of water from time to time. When the foliage turn brown remove them from the pot. Keep them in a dry location until planting in the fall outdoors prior to the first frost. A little bonemeal scattered around them and watered in will get them going for the spring.

Here is some information on hollyhock or hyacinths.

Hope this helps.

its time to plant most bulbs out here now. some bulbs need to be deeper than others. usually it depends on the mature hieght of the plant. tall plants need to be planted deeper for stability. you will need to think about the sun requirements of the plant. afternoon sun in west texas is pretty darn severe.
