Lefty or anyone who knows,
What don't people like about bath tub inserts? Can you buy them and install them yourself, if so where? I saw a company on the internet that sells and installs them and they were $1,000 and higher. Any thoughts are appreciated, Thanks

BillieR,

As you have already found, the cost for these are not cheap. It is basically a ¼" thick acrylic bathtub custom-molded to fit right over your existing tub. This is cost effect in part by not having to do new plumbing and ripping out all the wall coverings, etc.

As such it is a custom shaped product that is installed by professionals. It is not a do-it-yourself project. It is made at a shop based upon your existing tub style and size. The liner is then installed using adhesives and caulked into place.

I still don't have much faith in these but others have used them and like them but only time will tell to its overall durability. Usually it is a one day in and out so no mess. Pretty high price to pay for that.

You really have to evaluate the cost for doing this and really look at what condition the rest of the bathroom is in to justify this cost. I don't know what the warranties are so this is another area of concern.

Hope this helps!
