Can I use green wallboard in a cathedral bathroom ceiling with 2 ft joist or rafter spacing? Would 5/8 inch work better than 1/2 inch or will green wallboard sag because it is not on 12 inch joist spacing?

I would use 5/8" greenboard there. The 5/8" is better for ceilings since it's less likely to sag and the greenboard is designed for high moisture areas.

Definitely use 5/8 for 24" on center. I wouldn't use green board. Green board is not recommended for ceilings. USG says that not me. Use regular rock and paint it really well. If the paint job is good no moisture will ever penitrate it.

They say that whatever they treat it with makes it heavier and not as rigid and so sags more.

Interesting. I've handled quite a bit of green and white and can't say I've noticed much difference.
Thanks

I think it's rather a silly discussion anyway because, in my opinion, green board is a waste of time and money. If you do a good paint job moisture will never get to the sheetrock. If you have a leak behind the rock both will be destroyed just the same.
