I will soon be installing tile in a new home. The floor is concrete so I won't need a subfloor. A problem I didn't think about when I purchase the ceramic tile was that the edge with stop at a sunken living room. The depth is approx 6 inches. I can tile the riser but how do I edge the top when the tile ends? I don't think that a butt tile will stand up very long with all the traffic. Is there something else I can use?

How about a cultured marble threshold. That might work for you.

You could also use bullnose tiles where the edges will be exposed.

What Dave said. Bullnose tile will give a better appearance than other options.
