I've been gleaning bits and pieces from other posts. So now for an all inclusive answer....
I am going to replace my vinyl sheet kitchen floor with ceramic tile. Dimensions are approximately 12'x24'. The house is around 10 years old. I'll assume it has 3/4inch subfloor over 2x10 joists 16" on center. The span per joist is around 12'. I plan to install a layer of Duroc over the subfloor, then tile. I have some neighbors that had this work done and they have experience grout cracks, I assume from Duroc not completely secured to subfloor. I saw one post about laying Duroc in thinset and something about taping as well.
So is it a good idea to lay Duroc over thinset?
What type of thinset (I saw some mention about premix being inadequate)?
Should I tape the Duroc sheets?
If so, what specifically do I use?
Before I put the Duroc down going to secure the subfloor to the joists with 3 inch screws every foot or so.
Should I go denser than that?
Anything missing?
Once I get a solid base down, I am confident the finished product will be gorgeous.

USG has details for installation of Durock however it is best to set the board into a thinset to fill the gap between the layer of ply wood and durock. There is debate as to ,if you should use latex modified or dry set.(follow their directions since they will warrent it). also most mfg. have nailing and or screwing guidlines that should also be followed.Seams should be taped using recomended tape.
