I am remodeling the stairs that go down to my basement. my plan is to remove carpeting that is on the stairs (wood is underneath the carpet) and have decorative tile on the risers and buy some quality 1x12 oak and router and finish it myself for the treads. Here's the questions:1. Is it best to screw or glue the oak treads.2. What is the best wear resistant finish for the oak treads. 3. What type of tile should I use or stay away from.4. My current stairs have carpet on the sides of the walls with a wood strip running the lenth of the stairs, I guess this is for protecting the sides of the wall, Do I need this on the remodel? Thanks for the help and any suggestions that might help! Phil
