I had marble tile laid in my kitchen and it cracked. The contractor removed everything to the subfloor. The subfloor is 2x6 beams. He laid paper over that, mesh then about 1" of concrete. I had a professional tile contractor then come lay the tile. What could have gone wrong? Did it need Plywood?? Help!!

The thing your post didn't mention is probably one of the most important: the joists, their type, spacing, size, and span.
