I'm going to explain to you how to figure out the tallest cabinet you can make,tip it up and not hit the ceiling.
You can't just use the typical Pythagorean Theorem of A^2+B^2=C^2 or A Squared+B Squared= C Squared.
You can use the typical if you have the Height and the depth or width of a cabinet. If you don't have your height but you know your width or depth, you can do the following to determine what the tallest height of a cabinet would be without scraping the ceiling.
If I have a room Height of 107"
A cabinet depth or width of 26" "Doesn't matter whether its Depth or Width"
Do the following equation.
107^2 - 26^2 = ^2 or C^2 - B^2 = A^2
So in other words......
107x107=11449
26x26=676
so.....
11449-676= 10773
Take 10773 and hit the Square root button which will give you the vertical, tallest cabinet you can make, tip up in the room at its highest point and not hit the ceiling.
That number is 103.793 or 103-3/4+
This could apply if you're making the cabinet yourself or buying one and want to know if it will fit. If you buy a cabinet, take the lessor of the two between the width or depth and use that number.
So if a cabinet is 85" tall 26" Deep 20" Wide
Use the 85" and the 20" so you'll need less space to clear the ceiling.
So you'd take 85x85=7225 and
20x20=400
Now take 7225+400=7625 "Now hit the squared button"
It will give you 87.321245 or 87-5/16"+
That dimension is what the measurement will be if you measured from corner to corner on this cabinet.
That formula will apply to any premade cabinet or if you know the height and widthand or depth you're going to make it.
