Hi again. I always have a million different questions. I have learned a lot by asking. We have rental properties and that is why the questions are so varied.
The latest heater is a coal converted to gas boiler. It provides heat only not domestic water. It looks like a big cast iron pot belly stove. It started right up and heated the house but when I came back the next day the heat was off including the pilot light. I started it again and will go back today to see if it has stayed on this time. I turned the Honeywell Therm to the lowest position which looked to be about 58 degrees.
Any thoughts on why it may have gone out.
What do I look for to see if it has a low water shut off and an automatic fill.
There is a fairly large tank above that I think might be an expansion tank but I'm wondering why it has a shut off valve right below the tank.
Would you say this heat system is very inefficient or could it still be somewhat efficient. If we do replace it, it seems very heavy to remove.
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

A lot all at one time here. How long had it been off when you lit it up the first time? could just need a new thermocouple on the burner. Get a tech to look at itand see if all is ok.

Now I take it that this is a water boiler with the tank over head thats an expansion tank. shut off is so you can drain it if you have to. Water temp should be about 160o to 180o Psi about 15 to 18 psi for one story home

No low water cut off. Auto fill and pop off green or red where water comes in should be on all the time.

New and better yes and no . What do you want and does it work ok.;) ED
