My house is 3 years old and has a natural gas forced air furnace. I'm finding it difficult to spend $1500-2000 on central air for the 10-20 real hot days we get a year here in Buffalo. But I can see spending $300 to put a whole house humidifer on the furnace to combat the 4-5 months of cold, dry winter we do get. My question is, if I do put a humdifier on now, will that cause any problems if/when I decide to install central air? Will the humidifier need to be torn out to install the central air? Anything else I should be considering? Thanks for the help.

Most of the time, the humidifer unit itself is instaled on the return ductwork, and the 6" by-pass will be tied into the supply duct work. The 6" will be up high enough that when the A-Coil is installed, it won't be in the way. So there is no need to worry about any major changes if you "plan" on having A/C.

Put the humidifier in like the papers say. You can also put a damper in the bypass pipe that you can close off will help with the AC later on . Also dont forget to turn the water off to it in the summer.;) ED
