I don't quite know where to post this, but since windows and doors use glass brick at times I figured I'd give it a shot:
Does anyone have any experience with making a banister out of glass brick? I need to replace my ugly, unsafe brass one and instead of doing the normal oak I wanted to do something different. I've searched around and found this pic that illustrates what I want to do:

I've got a split level house so it it's not a large stairway / hallway. It would be 70" x 36" on the hallway and the same on the stairs - only at a 45 degree angle.
MODERATORS - Please move this to an appropriate forum if there is a better one for my question.
Thanks!

Might be easier to use acrylic blocks, rather than glass. One company that I know of that makes acrylic blocks is Hy-Line Products. Might be able to find a website, or a phone # is 877-712-4013

That's what I thought at first, but after checking with a Hi-Lite dealer they said that the structure of the blocks are very weak and should not be used in an application that could experiance any sort of stress.
Instead, I'm thinking of using IBP Glass Block. They make a grid system that is made of aluminum and you just slide the glass blocks in - no mortor. I called the company and they said to fax them some plans and they'll see what they can come up with. I like the product cause if you break one of the glass blocks you just slide it out and put another one in it's place!
Here's the website if you are interested and thanks for the reply!
