I have a Model 1313 Roper gas stove that came with the mobile home that I just bought. I estimate it's age at about 15 years old.

All burners, electric ignitors and oven lights work. It's fueled by propane. The problem is that the he oven does not light.

Upon turning on the oven, the oven ignitor lights the oven pilot . That's all, even waiting for several minutes. No gas seems to be flowing.

Parts are expensive so I'm trying to figure out which one to replace. I strongly suspect that the control valve is the culprit. (For one thing, there is a tiny diameter hollow copper tube between the valve and the pilot which has corroded apart. I don't know how critical it is.)

But I don't know exactly how a gas stove works. Could it be the valve at the thermostat at the manifold? Could it be something else. I hate junking something that's repairable but I can't afford to buy 2-3 parts blindly.

Any help is appreciated.

Hello Bill. Welcome to my Gas Appliances topic and our Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

That thin tube you mentioned has an element on it's end. That part is the safety device. It's called a "Fluid Safety."

When the pilot flame heats the element, the vapor within it expands and puhes a tiny pin in the gas valve so the gas valve can allow gas to pass to the burner.

Replacing that element should resolve the problem. Retail parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problem may be. Bring the make, model and serial numbers. Dealers are an excellent source for original replacement parts and are listed in the phone book.
