Electronic Alarms and Home Security Devices - Safewatch Pro 2000 system

I have a Safewatch pro 2000 system and was looking for a retailer online where I could buy a replacement door unit. The sensor on one of my exterior doors has broken and I was hoping to just buy the part and re-wire it myself.

I don't have a current warranty with my monitoring provider and they want $200+ to come out and do it for me.

For $200 you could replace the whole system.

BTW, if you're not currently under contract, it wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the system, drop the ADT monitoring and monitor for half price or less (just imagine what it will cost if you have a serious problem) - but, if you're happy otherwise, there's really no reason to change either.

After re-reading your post, I had another thought - it may be that you have a wireless door/window transmitter, which would explain the high cost (however, that's still outrageous.) If that's the case, you need to find out what type of transmitter you have (more than likely it's an Ademco 5816, but could be something else) and let me know. I'll let you know what to look for - usually you can get parts like that on Ebay for about $30 new.

That panel is the same as a Ademco Vista 20 SE except it is proprietary for ADT you can use a Ademco 5816 Transmitter and it will work fine, any security dealer can service and monitor that system $200 is a bit steep to replace that part should be between $75 - $150 with the part

Thanks for the input. I checked out a couple of possible parts on the site and was wondering if you had a recommendation.

The existing part most closely resembles part 1078c on the safewatchservice.com site.

The only difference is the part that goes in the wall has a small rolling ball on my where the site appears to just be a flat contact. Will this still work in my situation.

Also when I install this do I need to disable the system (power down) in order to rewire the contacts?

Ah, you must have a Roller Ball Plunger sensor. Something like this:

Of course, your's is probably white, but same construction?

If that's the case, you'll want the Roller Plunger contact - the <a href="http://safewatchservice.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/164">3008 3/4" Contact</a> or something similar.

Being a hardwire sensor that costs about $5, you can see where $200 is absolutely ridiculous - typical of big alarm companies.

Changing these out is pretty straight forward - they are not polarized, so you don't have to worry about which wire goes where, just connect them, and they don't really carry any power (just slight voltage for monitoring the circuit) so you don't have to worry about electricution or powering down the system - but, it's not a bad idea to power down anyway.

BTW, just to make sure you have a hardwire sensor, pull it out of the wall to make sure there are wires attached - probably so.
