View Full Version : installing new furnace air filter

Hello..
First time homeowner here. I am installed a new air filter in my bryant natural gas furnace for the first time. Its a mesh filter size 16x25x1. I have a question about how it fits in. There is a part of the filter that has an arrow and says "air flow". I assume the filter slides into place making sure the arrow points away from the furnace and in into the large silver duct, right? This may seem like a stupid question but i dont wanna catch my house on fire. When i took the old filter out, i didnt take note on how it went in. Any help would be appreciated. Again, the filter slides into place vertically between the bottom side of the furnace and the large metal duct.

Thanks in advance.
Glenn

Glenn, the arrow goes towards your furnace... the air is filtered before passing through the furnace

Hi:gsanta

The easy way to remember which way the filter gets installed is to face the arrow towards the furnace.

The intake air from the house gets filtered before it enters the furnace. Therefore, the air flow is into the furnace. The arrow thus needs to face the furnace.

Good Luck,
