The blower on my AC/Furnace stopped working but if the blower is spun by hand, then the fan takes off and everything operates properly until the thermostat shuts the system down. When the thermostat tries to restart the system again, the fan hums but will not run unless it is spun again. Is this caused by a faulty blower motor capacitor?

Hi EF:
You most likely have a bad capacitor. The problem could also be the mtor but replacing the capacitor is an inexpensive way to find out. When you go to buy the replacement, you want the same MFD rating while the VAC rating can be higher but not lower. Typical VAC ratings on run capacitors are 370 and 440. You can replace a 370 with a 440 but not the other way around. If you think about it for a minute, you realize that the professional guys who are thinking stock only the 440 types on the truck. It reduces inventory. Good luck. John.
