Having difficulty locating new "output" metal vents (in-wall) for our 50-year old ranch home.
The vanes inside significantly impede air flow and are not adjustable, which result in air hugging the walls. They're non-standard size, and haven't had any luck w/traditional home improvement stores.

CindyB, you didnt give enought Info to answer this one real well...there are a few differant types of wall registers..there are the low typethat hug the wall and stick out about two inches, then there are the in wall type that are like 10X6 and are more less a damper and fixed fins

Thanks R12 Guy. You're dealing w/a novice. These are more like the latter. They're in wall and have an outer frame that is larger than the part that actually goes into the wall, and fits inside the ductwork. To cover up the unfinished area where ducting meets the wall, I suppose. The inside measurements are really the ones that matter. It is 29& 3/8" long by 7& 5/8" tall and goes into the wall about 3 inches.
This opened up a whole nother can of worms. The previous owners used to use the evaporative cooler(it's a dead lump on our roof now and w/an asthmatic fiance will not be resurrected) and the metal rectangular ducting feeding this vent is pretty warped. I have a feeling we are going to have to get some help w/ installing new ductwork in this area, help that hopefully will know where to find ducts for this beast in our area.
I would still like to hear your suggestions for locating metal vents though.
Many thanks.

CindyB, try going to a supply house in your area, taking one of the register with you..now if you are looking for vents with adjustable vanes, they may have to be made.. i wouldnt be concerned with that tho... my 40 yo registers are the same way and do a fine job... besides to redo would open up a can of worms that i dont want to deal with let alone the cost...
