I have just bought a new home with a Hunter programable thermostat. Whenever I turn on the heat, the thermostat says emergency heat. I switch the setting to normal, but the message still says emergency. What should I do?

I am assuming that you have a heat pump heating and a/c system. Em. heat is your aux. or 2nd stage heat. It is resistive heat. Have your system check by the installer. There may be a manufacturer or installation Problem. Or t-stat, which may also be under warrenty.

What might be happening too is that its a cheap Thermostat and when you turn it on , the 2nd stage might be coming on to help get things up to normal temp ( anytime there is a 3 degree differance your 2nd stage will come on ) and the light is coming on for emergency heat...
