Our central a/c evaporator unit is in our attic and recently we have been seeing water running out onto our front porch through a pipe that drains from a pan directly under the heating/air conditioning unit up there. I assume it is some sort of overflow protection, but why is this pan filling up with water?

Hi:
Because the regular or main drain is obstructed. You could potentially have a flood in your attic. You will need to go up in the attic and flush out the regular drain and also clean out the drain pan in the a/c unit. Alternatively, you could call your servicer to do this for you. Don't wait too long. Thanks. John.
