My garage to laundry room door frame had to be re-aligned to accomodate proper closure of the door but now the alarm sensor will not arm on that door. The door jam has the contact and the door edge houses a small metal cylinder.Do these two have to be in perfect alignment to work or is there some leeway? Is there a test to determine the problem? The system is DSC Power 832. cheers, Neil

Yep, it sounds like you need an alignment.
As you said, the contact is in the jamb, and the magnet is in the door. The magnet opens and closes the reed switch inside the contact - if they are not aligned properly, then the sensor will remain open, not allowing you to arm the system.
Try taking the magnet out of the door (it should just slide out - you may have to pry it slightly) and hold it up to the contact - see if the zone closes. If so, you need to adjust the magnet to properly line up with the contact. If not, either the contact is bad or the wires are not connected or are bad.
More than likely, you just need to adjust the position of the magnet.
HINT: Most magnets are 3/8" - use a 3/8" bit to drill another hole - should fit perfect.
Good luck!
