I am thinking of putting a Laminate floor in my basement.
The product can go on concrete, (after a vapor barrier and the foam layer). My basement is very dry, but does anyone have an opinion on why I should not do this?
Thanks
Bill.

we are doing the same thing as you-- i think it is called wilsonart flooring, on top of some vapor barrier.. our interior designer suggested this flooring, as she has it, she had a flood, the floor warped, but after it dried you could not tell there ever was any damage... can't do that with a wood floor... our floor is being put in about 1 months time..

Your designer got lucky, but I am glad she did. A flood could very well possibly still ruin the floor, did your designer buy the more water resistant Wilsonart?
I would hate to give someone the impression that water will not permanantly ruin a lam floor.
Use the vapor barrier and the pad, unless a good floor and a warrantied floor are of no use to you.
Good luck, and congrats on choosing a good floor.

I've put two different laminates in two different houses. 1st being Formica brand and can't remember the current one. I don't see any problems with a basement installation making sure that the vapor barrier is installed correctly. I have had seams raise slightly with moisture and I find it hard to believe that this type of floor would withstand flooding (as with other floors). Good luck......

Odd stuff...
Just waterproof your basement so it is dry first. Why take flooding for granted ???
