Vinyl windows are just one of the best home improvements any home owner can make. The provide many benefits. But often only two security features.

1)
The standardized handle locking mechanism. Which also doubles as the handle used to move the moveable section.

2)
A feature which helps to prevent the sliding window section from being removed while the window is opened and or closed.

Both are good basic features. The sliding section window removal feature does work as intended. But does nothing to prevent the sliding section from being opened fully when it is already opened.

To prevent the sliding section from being opened when closed or opening fully when it is already opened partially, try this do-it-yourself extra security safety project.

Purchase wood or vinyl floor molding in the same color as the windows color and to the width of the sliding windows sectional track measurements.

Measure the distance between the windows frame and the windows sectional frame. Cut the molding to that length. Once the cut molding is inserted into the track, the moveable sectional window, when closed, cannot easily be opened.

When the windows is already opened partially, to prevent it from opening further, as a means of preventing entry from the outside, cut that molding section to the measurement you want the window partially opened to.

Install a small cabinet door hinge to the flat size of the molding between the cut two sections. When the molding is opened fully, use it when the window is fully closed to prevent forced entry.

When you want the window partially opened, fold the smaller section on the molding under the larger section of the molding. Install the molding in the track and open the window.

The partially opened feature will allow the windows sliding section to only open the distance of the non sectional side of the molding you cut. Only to the distance you pre selected. Entry now has been prevented from the outside.
