Looking for a decent DYI table. I don't plan on getting into a lot of woodworking but with a 1yr old you never know about the future. Basically just going to use it to rip a 4x8 sheet of paneling or cut some shelving down but there will be a few times where I will need to build some type of play room stuff. Not sure about quality/durability with the very cheap tables but I see no reason to spend $800+ on a higher end table either if woodworking is only a possibility right now. Thanks in advance.

A good Delta contractor's saw is hard to beat in that price range. Not too expensive, yet versatile enough to take on larger tasks. It is popular and parts are readily available as is expertise in using the tool.

I hate to tell you, but $800 won't get you a "high end" table saw. Double that, and you're at the lower end of "high end" :(

From your description, I would say that any of the "contractor" table saws would fit your needs. Make sure to do the setup correctly (rip fence parallel to the blade, etc) and get decent carbide tipped blades. They cut better and last much longer.

If you're planning to rip 4' x 8' sheets of plywood, infeed and outfeed tables are "must haves". It's a real SOB to try to horse a sheet of 3/4 plywood thru a table saw without them.

Sounds like youre not going to put too much into woodworking. I was in the same situation.........I loved woodworking ...but wasnt ready to make the commitment too put too much money into an expensive table saw. I saw the idea of making your own jig and table from 2X4s and plywood. You really dont even have to be a master to build it. Its a lot cheaper and it makes perfect cuts llike a table saw. The only drawback is that it takes longer to make the cuts than a table saw. But if time is not an issue and money is this might be the way. Let me know if youre interested.
