I'm posting this here, as I think of glue as a tool sometimes.

I need reccomendations on a glue that I can use to apply to a metal screw and bond that metal into wood. It's a 3/4" inch screw going into a door frame to help hold the strike plate in.

thanks!

Why not just drill a hole and screw it into the hole. You would not need glue. Screws have thier own holding power by design.

Or is the screw hole stripped and you need to solve that problem?

It is indeed stripped and it's aligned such that it goes into a section of drywall so small I dare not use drywall anchors.

glyndwr:

It is not clear what you mean by the strike plate is aligned with drywall.
A strike plate where I come from is on the inside edge of the door frame to secure the door latch.
This should be next to the rough framing for the door opening.
You could insert a tight fitting wood plug, redrill and install the same screw. I usually use an overlength screw and a shim between the door frame and rough frame to tie the strike plate into the structure.

I have also packed an oversized hole with tooth picks for a quick repair.

I fix this problem with toothpicks or matchsticks for quick repairs. A more permanent fix is to drill out the screw hole with a 1/4" drill and glue in a short piece of 1/4" dowel. When the glue dries, I use a Vix bit to start new holes perfectly centered in the strike plate holes.

I'll try drilling at 1/4", putting in a dowel and putting the screw back in.

Before you start drilling, look carefully at the locations of the striker plate holes. You said the screws were going into drywall. Were the screws going straight, or were they ****ed at an angle - maybe because the old holes in the door jamb were totally stripped out? The dowel trick needs a solid base to glue to and drywall won't hold.

I'll have to look. Maybe I can pop a shim in there and use a shorter dowel/screw. The old hole is totally stripped.
